AFSCME Local 1 stands in solidarity with the Service and Support staff of Meriter Hospital as they continue to bargain for a fair contract.
Quality patient care goes beyond doctors and nurses. An outstanding patient experience includes: having a clean facility, functioning equipment, healthy meals, and care from CNAs. All of these positions are vital to the hospital and patients it serves. These dedicated workers deserve a voice on the job and fair wages in order to prevent high turnover. When these workers are empowered to speak about issues affecting care, it improves services. When these workers are adequately compensated so that they may live and engage in the communities they serve, it promotes better healthcare for all.
We call on management of Meriter Hospital to prove they share these values, and bargain in good faith with service and support staff.
